What is a Modem?

A modem is a device designed to establish a connection to the internet, and pass that connection to another device. It’s the on-ramp to the information superhighway.

The plug for your modem may differ depending on your internet service.

  • RJ-11 (phone plug): DSL
  • Coaxial: Cable
  • Fiber connection: Fiber-optic internet

Modems will have an ethernet connection designed to go to a router or firewall.
