What is SIP Authentication?

SIP authentication details are credentials for a service provider. They prove that a device is allowed to place and receive calls.

These details usually include:

  • SIP Username: links all devices to a single profile
  • Authentication Name: proves that the device is a part of that profile
  • Password: proves that the device is authorized

Service providers may merge the SIP Username and Authentication Name. This means that an extension can only ever be on a single device.
