What is a Hosted PBX?

A hosted PBX is a service that provides PBX features via an internet connection. This connection goes from a customer site to a discrete hardware set.

This varies from a cloud PBX because it functions much like an on-premise system. The hardware may not be on-premise, but it is similar hardware. Maintenance and upgrades are taken care of by the service provider.
