What is a Network Packet?

A packet is a unit of data that is sent over the internet to be translated by another device.

It functions like a manila envelope sent through the mail. It contains who sent it, where it’s going, and then has contents inside.

In this case, the contents would be the data that is sent inside the packet, to be read by the destination systems.
