What is Tomato Firmware?

Tomato is a popular third party firmware that comes installed on some routers. Tomato is known as one of the best Quality of Service (QoS) solutions available on the market.

Quality of Service

Quality of Service, or QoS, is a feature in some routers that allows you to allocate bandwidth. Tomato’s QoS feature allows users to prioritize bandwidth based on a set of created rules. This helps when users have enough bandwidth but still experience intermittent audio quality issues. Once QoS is enabled and the rules are set the phones take bandwidth priority over all other devices, including computers. This usually helps maintain good call quality.

Benefits of Tomato through Nextiva

Tomato has QoS that can allocate bandwidth by a percentage. Other services, including routers that can do this, can be very pricey. Also Nextiva Support Agents are trained in the configuration of Tomato QoS and can assist you if you are having any issues.

Devices that can be upgraded to Tomato

  • Linksys WRT 54 GL – Nextiva can assist with setup.
  • Netgear WNR 3500L V2 – Nextiva cannot assist with firmware setup.

Note: We refuse to brick (break) a router we are unable to warranty. If you would like the proper Tomato firmware installed, we recommend you buy the router from Nextiva. Our routers come with Tomato pre-installed. Call our Amazing Sales team for ordering information, 800.799.0600.
