USF Fee For Q2 2012

Remember the days when the USF quarterly rate was below 4%?
We’d have to go back to the fourth quarter of 1999 when the USF rate was below 4%. Nowadays it’s above 17% with no signs of decreasing.

The Universal Service Fund is managed by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). USAC is a non-profit organization that is funded by the USF. The USF aims to promote the availability of quality and affordable communications services to all consumers, schools, libraries, and hospitals (as well as in rural areas).
On March 13, 2012, the FCC announced that the USF rate for the second quarter of 2012 will be 17.4000%. This rate will be in effect for the months of April, May, and June 2012.

While Nextiva’s monthly service rate does not fluctuate, the amount owed for Nextiva’s service can change due to USF fees as well as international calling or toll-free minute usage on your account. Review Nextiva’s Office pricing to see what an average 1, 4, and 8 line business pays for business VoIP service.

For those of you interested in a historical review of the USF fee, broken down by quarter since 1998, review the data below:

Create REAL Content

Content

When building and managing a website, it’s imperative you create quality (REAL) content. Writing for the sake of writing won’t get you far. Your articles and web pages should be user focused. When you work to please the user, everything else (in good terms) will follow. You’ll find success in click-through-rates, leads, sales, and search engine rankings. Your users are smart and so is Google – Don’t try to fool anyone.
It’s a simple equation: If you offer quality content, users and search engines will be happy. Resulting in your visitors sharing what they come across. Sharing can be in the form of text links, word of mouth, tweets, facebook promotion, and many other ways. As visitors share the content, you’ll ‘magically’ notice the search engines noticing and in-turn improving your rankings for related search terms. Quality content drives success…

Nextiva Extends CarbonFree Partnership

For the fourth straight year Nextiva has continued its partnership with CarbonFund.org and their CarbonFree┬« program. While Nextiva regularly promotes and participates in Green office programs, the CarbonFree initiative (which Nextiva started in 2009) was one of Nextiva’s first environmentally-conscious programs.
While Nextiva strives to emit the least amount of CO2 as possible, we can’t operate the business CO2 free. Therefore we believe in CarbonFund’s motto of “Reduce what you can, offset what you can’t”.
For offices looking to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on global warming, we recommend learning more about CarbonFund’s programs. Additionally – with Nextiva vFAX, your business can be one step closer to operating “paperless”. Nextiva vFAX is an online fax service that sends and receives your faxes electronically (via an online control panel and email).

Password Security

As a Nextiva client you can add employees, update department settings, change your voicemail greeting, and update many other elements of your phone system online (via the Office Manager control panel). At Nextiva we take security seriously and recognize the importance of your phone system. An unwanted person accessing your control panel can be detrimental to your business.

It is important that you maintain a secure password for your Office Manager and change your password regularly. Additionally, we recommend that your password be at least 8 characters, consisting of numbers, symbols and upper and lower-case letters.

Here are some of the most insecure passwords on the Internet, (therefore don’t use any of these passwords):

password

123456

qwerty

letmein

11111

master

Nextiva’s Green Office

We may not have the answer to the countless issues the environment is experiencing, however we realize that us (as people) do have an impact on the health of the environment. Nextiva takes environmental protection seriously and understands that businesses can operate in an environmentally friendly manner.
As a communications provider with multiple data centers producing large amounts of CO2 each year, we leverage energy efficient hardware together with a close partnership with Carbonfund.org to offset our carbon footprint.
However, environmental protection does not stop begin and end in our data centers. We take an active role in protecting our environment within the company headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona. Here are some of the initiatives going on at our corporate office:

Recycling bins located throughout the office

Limited access to paper, only used if necessary

Use of bio-degradable products

Removal of all paper and plastic cups. Employees drink out of mugs.

Use of environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals

Promotion of bicycle transportation

Understanding Your Office Bandwidth Requirements

Nextiva’s phone service requires a high-speed Internet connection in order for it to work. Prior to making the switch to Nextiva (or switching Internet Service Providers), it is helpful to understand what type of Internet speeds are required with Nextiva. With an understanding of the resources your phone service will require, your experience with Nextiva would be better.

The amount of bandwidth required is associated with the number of live calls you plan to have. Therefore the more employees (with phones) you have, the more bandwidth you need. You can simply multiply the number of employees (live calls) with 80 (kbps) to understand your upload and download speed requirements.

PLEASE NOTE: This does not account for your other network requirements. In order to get a complete understanding of your Internet usage, check your router in order to see if it provides usage data statistics.

We highly recommend businesses consult with a Nextiva Account Executive prior to purchasing phones and/or service. With the proper information, research, and planning – your VoIP experience will be smooth (and fun).
