If you are a website or small business owner, you have most likely heard of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). According to Wikipedia, “SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a web site or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.”
Many people view search engines like Google and Bing as gateways to the Internet. Therefore if your website ranks well organically for your industry’s most popular keywords, your business will likely benefit in many ways. SEO has become quite competitive in recent years and will likely continue to do so as more businesses experience the power of search engines.

1. Make sure the meta elements for each web page on your site is specific to the information located in the body of the page.
2. Try to have your main keywords near the top of each web page.
3. Have search engine friendly URL’s that include keywords related to the content on the page. Separate words in URL’s with hyphens.
4. Every image should have an alt attribute. Keep it under 4 words.
5. Have the body text for each page come before the standard navigation elements.
6. Keywords should be included in the anchor text of links, but don’t over do it. All anchor text should be short.
7. Use 301 and 302 redirects when necessary.
8. Try to keep the file size of a page low and have code that is easy to crawl, try not to be sloppy.
9. Don’t try to stuff as many keywords as possible, create your web pages for our users and not the search engines.
10. Add new and valuable content regularly and consistently.
